The Gulag Uprising of 1954

Under Stalin, the Gulag system saw millions imprisoned, from true criminals to civilians who criticized the state. After Stalin's death, prisoners thought freedom was a possibility. When it didn't come quickly enough, prisoners in several camps took action into their own hands. The most significant of these uprisings happened in Kengir, today a part of Kazakhstan.
