Savonarola and the Bonfires of the Vanities

In 15th century Florence, Italy, the citizens burned art and items that were deemed to be without religious value in demonstrations called bonfires of the vanities. They were followers of the Dominican priest, Girolamo Savonarola. A religious leader immortalized in Machiavelli's work, "The Prince", Savonarola's rise and fall is history that deserves to be remembered.
